Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
Looks very nice... and far better to work well and not just look pretty
I have a small issue with my bike that has just cropped up. Fuel was leaking from the tank and i have discovered that it had a crude repair done in the past just where it locates at the front of the fuel tank. I really need a new plastic tank but have tried to undertake a repair myself to see if it works.
The Aprilia top fork clamp and moving the footrests down and slightly back have made the biggest difference to the bike... feels so much better to ride. You feel part of the bike now rather than sat on top of it. And the steering is much better with the handlebars level with the centre position.

Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
my footrests were already back on this frame but not very low;I will try to change
I changed the betor fork clamps for the Marzocchi's of the earlier models and I find it more pleasant and direct
Have you change the carburetor settings or kept the original ones?

Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
I purchased a new Delorto jetted to the SWM spec's ... i don't trust old carbs, especially 30 year old ones
Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
you're obviously right but it is difficult to find a brand new carburetor whis the correct exit diameter
I think your tank can be repair by a thermoplastic specialist, I had one repaired this way a few years ago

Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
I will add... be aware it was delivered with the rubber manifold screwed onto the rear, the one that suits many modern bikes. I removed this and wrapped a couple of layers of insulating tape over the threads and then clamped my airbox side inlet manifold onto that and it has been perfectly good. But i am using a new manifold rubber so if using an older one you will need to make sure it clamps up tight with no gaps.
I may be making up some screw on aluminium spacers that are a little longer so older carb rubbers will stay on better. I'll post them here if i do some.

Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
My problem was that I think the new carb have a smaller end on the engine side than the old ones and it may be necessary to make an alloy or teflon part to correct this
Is this true?

Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
No... this one fitted straight on at the engine side. Perfect fit.
The correct model code of the carb should give you the correct size and style.
You should be able to get all details on sizes etc from the eurocarb site... have a look around..

PHBL 26BS may be the one with the non screw end...

Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
I have to say.. yes it is better than the original, looks a look neater. I did consider using an old yellow GasGas front mudguard but thought i would like to keep it SWM as much as possible (apart from Aprilia fork clamps & clutch cover )
Re: Finally we are getting somewhere ..
All good things come to an end...
I attended the Jersey 2 day trial last weekend but sadly i dislocated my knee on the first day .. it is obvious that my knee is not up to riding anymore and as it happened i was offered a good price for the SWM, so it now lives in Jersey!!
Hopefully i will build up a few bikes to sell in the near future but no riding for me.. here is the last picture of my bike just after i unloaded it from Steve Saunders van..
